SECONDARY SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER (m/f)

!!! Language of conduct: Dutch. !!!

Approximately 0,8 FTE (4 days per week, 32 units of 30 minutes) teaching English to grade 1 & 2 VMBO (predominantly basisberoepsgerichte leerweg with and without LWOO) - pay scale LB. Temporary contract (12 months), after which your contract could be changed into a permanent contract depending on your performance as a teacher at our school, to be evaluated in March / April 2009. Starting date: 18 August 2008.

ABOUT PANTA RHEI

Panta Rhei is a secondary school for VMBO/MAVO and LWOO (pre-vocational education) in Amstelveen. Our school has two locations: grade 1 and 2 are mainly taught at Pandora 3, grade 3 and 4 at Hortensialaan 1, our main building. A new building, serving as our location for grade 1 and 2 as well as our new main building, is currently being constructed next to our current location at Pandora. We will start using our new location in January 2009.

It is our mission to be a stable, inspiring school with a positive attitude towards our students. We work in teams, each responsible for the education to a maximum of 9 classes. Being a relatively small school (approximately 650 students in grade 1 – 4), we are able to pay as much attention to each individual student as needed.

OUR REQUIREMENTS:

• strong experience and/or affinity with pre-vocational (VMBO) education and teaching to students from disadvantaged backgrounds
• gearing your teaching towards students with many different social, emotional and educational needs and coming from different cultural backgrounds
• stimulating and coaching the students to learn how to learn
• excellent communication skills and ability to function well within a team; ability to work as a team member in a school developing new approaches to teaching within the VMBO
• the ability to contribute to interdisciplinary projects
• flexible and open to new ideas
• (nearly) fluent in spoken and written Dutch

QUALIFICATIONS:

• a European teaching qualification, or the equivalent. Having experience of teaching English to foreigners / Dutch students is an advantage. Experience in teaching in Dutch is an advantage.
• applicants who do not hold a valid teacher qualification should be willing to study a suitable part-time programme at a Dutch educational institution to obtain this qualification.
